It doesn't hurt that much..I mean I can take ibuprofen and the pain goes away so I don't think it is a dry socket. (I think that hurts a lot more than this does.) (Tooth was pulled on April 24th)Hubby looked at the hole and said that he can see bone much closer to the entrance of the hole then it was yesterday. Is this sequestrum? (Or a dead bone coming out?) How long does it take till I can pull the bone out? (typically)After it comes out everything will start to heal again the right way right?TIA!
Answer:
The piece of bone you see is actually from the elevating (Rocking) of the tooth. In order to extract a tooth, instruments are used to rock it back and forth in order to loosen it enough to pull out. These teeth are held in by %26quot;cups%26quot; of small thin bone that are sometimes broken when the tooth is being rocked. It is completely normal and will either work its way out in the next few days as swelling decreases or will absorb into the body. If it becomes irritating or sensitive, go into the Dentist and ask for them to remove it. It is painless and easy. As I stated, this is completely normal when removing a tooth, and congratulations on knowing the difference. Many people think that those pieces are actually a part of the tooth that the Dentist left in there, which is not the case. As the swelling decreases from the extraction site, you may even see it poking up a little, and if it is free, and not painful, remove it with tweezers. Everything will heal up just fine. If the bone doesn't work its way out, it will be absorbed back into the body. Good luck, and make sure your hubby stay on the Ibuprofen. It'll help with any sensitivity. You should see some very good reduction in swelling and pain within the next 3 days.
Many Dentist do this intentionaly so that the remaining teeth do not slip out of place or start leaning over etc. A place holder if you will..
its actualy a good thing..
Peace
Quite possibly a fraction of the bone surrounding your tooth got fractured, and it is in fact dead bone, and your body automatically throws it out. I wouldn't touch it, and if it persists there after 2 weeks, go see your dentist. You should make sure it's not a dry socket. If the pain persists after a few days, it probably is.
