My abcess tooth started "acting Up" on Fri. afternoon - all the?

dentists are closed until Mon. How will I survive until Mon.?
Answer:
Rinse your mouth with warm salt water during the day.
Go to the hospital
First you get an ice skate... ;-)Try Ibuprofen 600mg every 4-6 hours. If you're really dying of pain you can try your local ER. They may give you antibiotics if you have an infection.Start calling dentists on Monday morning!Next time don't let it go so long...
How is it treated? If you have an abscessed tooth, your dentist will: *Give you antibiotics to destroy the bacteria causing the infection.
* Make a hole in the top or back of the tooth so the infection can drain. Usually this will relieve your pain.
* If needed, make a small hole in the swollen area near the tooth to allow it to drain. If the inside (pulp) of your tooth is infected, your dentist will have to do root canal treatment (also called a root canal). A root canal tries to save your tooth by taking out the infected pulp. If the treatment doesn't work, the dentist may have to remove your tooth. How can I prevent an abscessed tooth? You can prevent an abscessed tooth by preventing bacterial infections in your mouth. The best way to prevent bacterial infections is to take good care of your teeth and gums: * Brush your teeth in the morning, at night, and after eating. If you can't brush after a meal, chew sugarless gum.
* Floss your teeth every day.
* See your dentist for regular dental checkups.
* Eat a healthy diet, and avoid sugary foods and drinks. Some people have a very dry mouth. Having a very dry mouth can cause deep dental cavities to form quickly, which can infect the pulp of a tooth and lead to an abscess. You may be able to prevent these problems by taking frequent sips of water, chewing gum, or sucking on sugarless candy. If you have severe dry mouth symptoms, you may need to take medicine to treat the problem. Many medicines can cause mouth dryness, including medicines used to treat depression and high blood pressure.
In the meantime...
Keep your cool and you can last until Monday. Try eating softer foods on the other side of your mouth and not talking or moving your mouth/jaw too much.
This happened to me in Fall!it's horrible, but here's what you gotta do.try getting ahold of your dentist, be it the machine at his/her office (sometimes they check those over the weekend). Sometime you can go through the phonebook and find a home phone number, or maybe you have his/her cellphone number some where...anyways, once you get a hold of him/her, state your problem and s/he'll schedule you in asap(monday) and give you a prescription to some sort of painkillers and an antibiotic in the mean time.if by any chance you can't get a hold of him/her, perhaps trying the E.R. (only if it hurts bad enough that you think painkillers are needed), or whatever, preferably legal, means you can think of.
Look in your local free newspaper for a list of chemists that stay open late. They'll be able to recommend something to help with the pain. Clove oil is good for numbing tootache, but I don't know if it's okay to use it when you have an abcess - you could check that out with the chemist. Good luck.
