My boyfriends gums hurt?

my boyfriends gums hurt and we don't know why. it has been bugging him all day and he can't eat because it hurts too much and his cheek looks swollen on the side his gums hurt. what do you think it is? and what do you think will help relieve the pain?

it could be quite a few things...if his face is swelling he might have a big cavity or abcess which he should get looked at as soon as possible. My boyfriend had moderate gum pain when he wasn't taking as good care of his teeth as he should of been (didn't floss well and hadn't had a cleaning) could be inflammation from periodontal disease but that's usually not extremely painful...At my office we always recommend Motrin, it works better than Tylenol.Either way if the pain persists for over 24 hours, get him to the dentist.

sounds like an absess. very painfull and can become septic! get it looked at right away. in case you dont know septic means that the infection gets into his blood stream and it can be fatal.
