Answer:
Show him to a good doctor. Tell him to chew an ilaichi once a day too.
listerine
dental cleaning along with quitting his smoking and drinking habits and with regular drinking of plenty of water and brushing after food
Suggest to your husband to brush his teeth after every meal and
rinse his mouth with a mouth wash. Spicy foods make also a smelly mouth, cut down on those.
use a little rock salt mixed with sesame oil and rub gently along the gums. rinse mouth frequently with warm water in which lemon juice has been added.
If he goes to his dentist regularly for cleanings and still has bad breath have him try tongue scrapers, and crest pro health mouth rinse. It is alcohol free, and works really well. The tongue scrapers will remove dead cells off of the tongue which harbor foul odors. Though I must warn you, the first few times he tries it, if he has never done it. It can be pretty icky. The smell combined with what you see is not something for weak stomachs, but if you do it regularly you will see the benefit as well as better oral hygiene. If he suffers from halitosis after that? then he should go see a professional to make sure there isn't a underlying problem, or also try consulting his dietary intake. (ex. if he eats tons of onions, garlic...) Tongue scrapers really work, I personally think they work better than brushing your tongue with a tooth brush. Anyhow at this point is sounds like he should at least give it a try. Let me know how it works out for you!
